How to Maintain Your Dental Implants

Recently got dental implants and wondering how to best maintain them? Your new implants aren’t that much different from your natural teeth. Not only are they similar to your natural smile in physical aspects but also in terms of maintenance! So, here’s what you need to do to make sure you don’t damage your new treatment!

Floss daily

A toothbrush can’t reach between your teeth or just below the gums the same way flossing can- this is what makes flossing so crucial for your everyday oral routine. All you have to do is wrap the floss around your implant and gently rub up and down between the teeth. Make sure to reach under the gums as well. Then, move on to the next implant. If you’re unsure or scared to floss your implants, you can always request a demonstration and one of our team members will gladly help out!

Brush twice a day

You need a soft-bristled toothbrush that isn’t harsh on your gums. Don’t apply too much pressure along the gumlines but make sure to clean the part where the crown meets your gum tissue! By brushing too hard you risk causing your gums to recede. You can also opt for a non-abrasive toothpaste that won’t scratch at the porcelain implants.

Scale and Clean

The last thing you want is for your implants to accumulate bacteria due to small scratches. These can be prevented with your regular scale and clean appointment at Wyndham Dental. Our practitioners will perform the routine checkup and gently polish the surface of your implants to remove any stains. Ideally, you’d schedule a checkup every 6 months with the clinic, no matter how many implants you have.
