How To Make Your Implant-Supported Dentures Last

If you’re looking for a more comfortable option to your conventional dentures, implant-supported dentures may be the best solution for you! Secured to your jaw using as few as 2 to 6 dental implants, these overdentures can replace a full set of teeth and if properly maintained can last for up to 20 years (or longer!). Here’s what you need to do in terms of maintenance to ensure your investment lasts:

Non-abrasive toothpaste

Bacteria are as capable of accumulating on your prosthetic teeth just as much as natural teeth. The only way to reduce or avoid your chances of cavities forming is by consistent cleaning. Since your prosthetic teeth are softer than natural teeth, they should ideally be cleaned with a soft-bristled brush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Unsure of what products to use on your dental appliances? Just schedule a consultation with us and we’ll help!

Water-flosser

As per any oral hygiene routine, simply brushing won’t do the trick. Your toothbrush can’t reach between your teeth, and this is where most food particles tend to accumulate. By using a water flosser, you can reach all these areas with ease!

Denture cleaning solution

If your dentures are removable (i.e. “snap-on” dentures), then you’ll need to keep them in denture-cleaning solution overnight. This isn’t just to disinfect them and keep them clean, however. Denture-cleaning solution helps keep your prosthetic teeth soft, instead of becoming brittle and prone to breakage over time.

Professional cleaning

We recommend scheduling a checkup every 6 months. During these checkups, not only will a professional cleaning be carried out around your prosthetic teeth and surrounding gum tissues, but we also do a thorough assessment in order to intercept any possible dental conditions and problems early on (when it’s easier to treat and control).

As you can see, maintenance is as simple as it gets. Implant-supported dentures only require a consistent oral hygiene routine and regular checkups! Wondering if you’re eligible for this treatment?
