Dental Implants In Werribee

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants can help restore confidence in your smile by fixing any missing gaps or broken/severely damaged teeth with premium dental implants. A dental implant is a Titanium root inserted into the jawbone that provides the foundation for your new prosthetic tooth (otherwise known as a dental crown).

This surgical procedure is minimally invasive, so you can expect just a bit of soreness around the site. Your recovery time will vary depending on the severity of your case, which we’ll cover in more detail below. Made of titanium alloy, our jawbones respond well to dental implants and eventually fuse with them through osseointegration to act as a stable base for the new tooth or bridge.

Am I Eligible For Dental Implants?

Not all patients are suitable for implant placement as there are a few prerequisites:

    • Adequate jawbone density. If your jaw bone structure is deemed too weak, your dentist may suggest a bone graft prior to proceeding with dental implants.
    • Healthy gums and good oral hygiene are needed to have the implants secured in place.

There are also a few health conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis and habits such as smoking, that need to be considered to determine your eligibility for implants.

However, having one of these conditions does not mean you cannot have a dental implant – You will need a thorough consultation with your GP and your dentist to make sure that you have the best outcome and that the advantages of implant placement outweigh the risks.

    Benefits Of Dental Implants

Dental Implants are a great way to fill those unseemly gaps between teeth. In fact, implants have many advantages compared to other replacement solutions as they are a long-term treatment with great durability and a high success rate.

      • A permanent solution to tooth loss

Dental implants are designed to be a permanent solution for tooth loss. With proper oral hygiene and regular dental care, dental implants can last for the rest of your life. If you are looking for tooth replacement options in Werribee, dental implants should certainly be considered for their durability and effectiveness. The permanency also makes it a cost effective option.

      • Mimics your natural teeth

Dental Implants are customised to not only blend in with the natural colour, shape and size of your teeth but also to fit precisely within the gap. The goal is to create an aesthetically pleasing result that is virtually indistinguishable from your surrounding teeth!

      • Improves oral health

Did you know that your jawbone is stimulated by the roots of your tooth and can gradually deteriorate when you have missing teeth? This loss of bone can affect your success rate for future dental work and cause your facial muscles to sag. Eventually, your remaining teeth will start to tilt and shift, causing misalignment that increases your risk of tooth decay along with wear and tear. Dental lmplants preserve the jawbone by replacing the tooth right down to the root. The jawbone will be kept healthy and stimulated, preventing bone loss and maintaining the structure of your face. They also do not require altering adjacent teeth, as a dental bridge would.

      • Replaces the need for dentures

Patients who wear dentures often feel their prosthetic teeth are loose-fitting or uncomfortable to wear. Moreover, since denture adhesives are used to keep your dentures in place, they may feel messy and uncomfortable. Unlike dentures, which can wear out relatively quickly and require frequent replacements, dental implants can last a long time with proper care and maintenance. They are also more comfortable and stable as they secure your teeth to your jawbone.

      • Restores your confidence and self-esteem

Have you ever hesitated to smile in photos due to missing or damaged teeth? With dental implants, you can say goodbye to all your smile insecurities and regain confidence once again.

      • Enhanced Speech

Unlike removable dentures that tend to slip and cause speech difficulties, dental implants provide a stable and secure foundation for speaking clearly and confidently.

      • Preservation of Adjacent Teeth

Traditional bridges typically require adjacent teeth to be altered for support. However, dental implants do not affect neighbouring teeth, helping preserve the integrity and health of your natural teeth.

      • Easy Maintenance

Maintaining dental implants is like maintaining and caring for your natural teeth. With daily brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups, you can make sure your dental implants last longer.

How Our Dental Implants Are Placed?

Here’s how our dental implant process works at Wyndham Dental:

    1. Firstly, the assessment and planning will take place during your initial consultation. We will take x-rays to analyse the condition of your mouth, and develop a personalised treatment plan.
    2. If your jawbone is too thin or soft, bone grafting might be needed. This is where a section of bone is taken and grafted onto your jawbone. If a bone graft is necessary, it will take a few extra months of healing before moving on to implant placement in order to allow the bone to bond to your jawbone.
    3. In a minor surgical procedure, your dental implant will be placed into your bone. This site is usually left for about 7 months to recover and for the implant to successfully fuse with your jawbone.
    4. Once fused, a temporary healing collar will be placed to help your gum tissues heal correctly. This is usually kept in for at least 10 to 14 days before proceeding to the next stage.
    5. Following that, the abutment (a connector piece) is screwed into the implant to provide more support for the crown. Your healing collar/temporary dental crown will still be in place, allowing your tissues to heal for a period of 4 to 6 weeks.
    6. In the final step, your permanent dental crown will be cemented into the abutment , and the procedure will be completed.

Why You Shouldn’t Ignore Missing Teeth

There are several consequences to not replacing a lost tooth. Mainly, your jawbone can deteriorate due to the loss of pressure. Simply placing dentures on top doesn’t help stimulate your jawbone. Dental implants, which go a step further and fuse to the bone, will help support a healthy bite by using prosthetic teeth that continue to stimulate the jawbone and prevent any deterioration.

Dental implants can drastically help with how confident you feel about your smile, too! You’ll be able to smile without worrying about how your teeth look.

    Dental Implants FAQs

The cost of a dental implant usually varies according to several factors including how many teeth you need replaced and if other dental treatments are required prior to getting implants. Typically, however, you can expect the cost to range from $1500 to $7000 per implant. Upon your appointment and individual assessment of your case, we can give you a fixed cost.

If taken care of well enough, your dental implants can last for as long as 15 years of more! They don’t necessarily require any specific after-care routines. You just need to follow the right oral hygiene habits, like proper brushing and flossing. Our dentists may also recommend an antimicrobial rinse to provide extra protection against plaque. It’s also vital that you follow through on regular checkups to prevent any infections or other dental conditions.

Once your dental implant has been successfully inserted into your jawbone, it’ll take around 3 to 4 months to properly fuse to the bone and heal. Once healed, we will begin the process of fabricating and fitting in your new prosthetic teeth, which can take another 2-4 weeks. All things considered, you should be able to flaunt your new smile in 3-5 months. But, if your jawbone is in need of rebuilding and stabilization with the added procedure of a bone graft, then this can add another 4-6 months to the whole process!

Your implants may come loose due to several reasons. It could be due to interrupted healing, poor maintenance, accidents/injuries, or simply because the years have gone by and they need replacing. In such cases, it’s best to visit our dentist ASAP so we can examine your loose dental implant and recommend the most appropriate course of action to address the issue effectively. Whilst the course of action depends on the underlying cause, the solutions for this may range from simple implant tightening and crown or bridge adjustments to implant replacement or a bone graft if osseointegration hasn’t occurred properly.

We offer a free dental implant consult, and a range of quality dental treatments that include dental implants. Getting a new, functional and healthy smile has never been easier as we use the latest technology and in-house equipment, coupled with precise planning to design your individual smile. Often choosing a practice that is not adept at offering dental implants means that you are compromising on the quality of your implants, and this could lead to severe complications that are more costly to fix. Get your dental implants done right the first time around with Wyndham Dental.

Your dental implant appointment can be stress-free because we offer in-house sedation dentistry by our licensed and qualified dental practitioners to help the time pass while we work on rebuilding your smile.

We believe in making your dream smile a possibility for all. Use our flexible payment plans to help cover your dental implant treatments and smile with confidence again.

Local anesthesia is typically used during treatment to ensure you don’t feel pain. However, after the anesthesia wears off you can expect some discomfort and soreness as your jaw and gums begin to heal. This discomfort is usually easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication, such as ibuprofen, or a prescription pain reliever provided by our dentists if required.

Caring for your dental implants is similar to the way you care for your natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing and routine dental check-ups are vital to maintain their longevity.

Yes, you can enjoy your favourite foods just like you would with your natural teeth. Its durability and stability allows you to eat a wide range of foods comfortably.
